Remembering Parenting Toddlers

Note to self:

A softly whining doggie in her crate is very similar to a toddler who does not want to nap, despite the fact that they are exhausted. We just returned from an hour romp in the woods. She is fed. She is dry and warm. And she needs to learn to stay in there longer each day. I am leaving for six days next week and she needs to be crated for some of it. Thus the training. It is hard to sit here in the kitchen typing away while she begs for attention, but responding will teach her that whining works. So I sit here, and curse the Ferber Method (a method of getting your kids to sleep through the night by not going in to them, but talking gently through the door) and listen to her change the sounds to illicit a response. It is sweet, and funny, and a little sad. Yesterday she calmed down after about ten minutes. Not so today.

Perhaps it is the turkey bacon aroma wafting her way.

Poor, Poor, Unloved Doggie...

Back later with a post of the usual sort.
