Nappy Hugh Ear!

Well, here we are. We are at the doorstep of a brand new year. Someone I know calls 2008 "2000 and infinity" because if you put the 8 on it's side it becomes the infinity symbol. I tried to think about that last night, errr, early this morning, and remember that all things reach forward and backward. This was one "well seasoned hellbroth" of a year, as Anthony Bourdain would say. Much glory, much grit. All in all, though, I am in the healthiest place I have been in many years. Emotionally, I am balanced and whole, very happy, even in my solitude. Physically, I am doing well, walking 4 miles a day, minimum, eating well, sleeping my requisite 8 hours. Career wise I am doing what I love and getting paid well for it. The new year brings the possibility of co-writing a book and a number of really wonderful things. Speaking of wonderful things...

Giant Girl Puppet!

I am a huge fan of the Bread and Puppet festival, which is no longer in existence, I believe. Something about larger than life puppets sparks my fancy. Unlike, say, CLOWNS, which make me want to run, screaming into the night. When I saw this I was thrilled and a bit freaked-out.

Tinkering School

Tinkering School. If you have a chance, go check out Gever's talk at TED on You Tube. I was lucky. My mom supplied my sister and I old appliances and toolboxes to play with. Gizmos and Gadgets. I wish I was a kid again so I could go to this summer camp. What a blast!

We must come to understand the deep mutual connection or kinship between the various forms of our spirituality. We must recollect our original spiritual and moral substance, which grew out of the same essential experience of humanity. I believe that this is the only way to achieve a genuine renewal of our sense of responsibility for ourselves and for the world. And at the same timeā€¦ it is the only way to achieve a deeper understanding among cultures that will enable them to work together in a truly ecumenical way to create a new order for the world. - Vaclav Havel

Pork Chops with Sherry and Pomegranate Glaze

This is similar to the pomegranate reduction sauce noted in earlier posts, but a bit more simplistic.

6 thin cut pork chops
6 shallots chopped roughly
1/4 c olive oil
salt/pepper
1 cup flour
4 oz. Pom brand pomegranate juice
2 Tbls. dry sherry

First dredge the chops in flour seasoned with salt and pepper to taste.
Heat oil in a skillet and add the shallots. Turn after 3 minutes. Remove the chops when cooked. Deglaze the pan with the sherry and add the pomegranate juice. Allow this to reduce a bit and plate the chops, drizzling the sauce over.
