Fire in the hills

Photobucket

Background: A prescribed fire set by Yosemite National Park (NPS) fire crews on Wednesday, August 26, has grown beyond the predetermined fire perimeter and full supression efforts are in effect. The fire was originally slated to burn 90 acres; however it burned beyond the fire lines.

Once the fire began burning beyond the perimeter late Wednesday morning, National Park Service (NPS) firefighters began supression efforts. NPS firefighters ordered additional resources including air tankers, helicopters, bulldozers, and additional firefighters.

I guess this is a case of "Only You can create forest fires!" though I suspect they will not make posters of Smokey Bear stating such. According to the poster at the fire viewing site, as of the day we viewed it, there were about 947 people fighting this fire, and the cost was over 5 million dollars. I bet Arnold the Governator is frantically searching his attic for more stuff to sell at a yard sale for this one.

Here are some images I have collected of the fire from where we could view it.
